Why does Shaban 1447 start on 2026-01-20?

This Hijri date is based on the official moon sighting announcement in EG.

Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyyah
Official Egyptian authority using astronomical calculation with sighting confirmation

Explanation

According to Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyyah, the crescent moon was not sighted, and the previous Hijri month was completed as thirty days.

Accordingly, Tuesday, 20 January 2026 was declared as the first day of Shaban.

التوضيح (Arabic)

How was this date determined?

Official announcement (original text)

Egypt's Dar al-Ifta sighted the crescent moon of Sha‘ban 1447 A.H after sunset on Sunday, 29 Rajab 1447 AH (January 18, 2026), through its legal and scientific committees deployed around the Republic.
The sighting of the crescent was not legally confirmed. Accordingly, Monday, January 19, 2026, completes the month of Rajab, and Tuesday, January 20, 2026, marks the first day of the month of Sha‘ban 1447 A.H.

Why dates may differ

Hijri months are determined by moon sighting practices, which may vary between countries and authorities. Alhabib reports official announcements without issuing religious rulings.
